No, I’m not talking about a shot of Fireball, Jameson, or whatever your poison may be. Though after the last two games, and generating 8 and 7 shots on goal through the first two periods vs. Nashville and Dallas, I might just take a shot (or several) in the hopes of blacking out and forgetting the entire season. Unfortunately, I’d wake up to a severe headache and still look at the standings and know it is going to be a long shot, shot being the operative word, for us to make the playoffs.*
McGinn scoring during last year's playoffs.
As the heroic Gretzky put it, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. While I’ve always loved this quote, not only relating to hockey, but life in general, the Avs need to seriously start putting the shots on net. With the red hot Minnesota Wild coming into town tomorrow night, a team that we still have yet to score against, we are going to need to practically throw pucks at the net. Truthfully, we are going to need more than just shots on goal in hopes of getting a W against them. Don’t EVER quote me on this, but Minnesota is the better club, and has continuously figured out how to shut us down this season. But that does not mean we can’t beat them, in fact, that is why we should beat them, the Avs typically tend to play their best hockey against the better teams. Just not Minnesota (so far).
However, after tonight’s jubilant victory over Dallas, I think it is about time we prove to Minnesota that we can, and will beat them, finally leaving last season’s tragic loss in the past. Fear not, I will not forget that game; it is the fan’s duty to hold grudges, forever. That being said, if we are going to win, we will have to put the puck on net. Perhaps LMFAO can articulate it best:
Stastny scoring the game-winning goal in Game 1 vs Minnesota last season. Yes, I still miss Stastny.
"Shots shots shots shots shots shots
Shots shots shots shots shots
Shots shots shots shots shots
Everybody"
Let's just pray that if we are singing that tomorrow night at the bar, it is in celebration and not an attempt to drown our sorrows.
