Holiday Hostess Ditcher

Yup, that would be me. Let it be known that I ditched my own holiday party to attend the Avs game against the Edmonton Oilers. In a poor planning move, my roommate and I scheduled our annual holiday party on the same night that the Avs were to play the Oilers. To top if off, I was unable to find someone for our tickets (clearly anyone worthy of the tickets was already attending the party). Of course I had the game on well before puck drop, volume turned low so as not to interrupt the wonderful holiday playlist my roommate had so excellently created.

Now, let me digress a bit by explaining that my friend Chris and I have had a pact that the next game we went to and the Avs won, we’d buy our new much desired Nathan MacKinnon third jerseys. An event that has been in the works for most of the season, but much to our disappointment (for more reasons than one) we kept losing. So there I sat across from Chris, knowing full well that the Avs tickets were just feet away from where I sat. Then when Blake Comeau scored a shorty just over a minute into the game, no words were needed, we both looked at each other knowing this could finally be our night.

So as to not appear to poor of a hostess I made my rounds during intermission, while my little brother pulled out the tickets. There was no way I was going to be able to make a wardrobe change without being noticed, so Chris and I slowly and quietly left the party with coats and tickets in hand.

It took a full hour before I even received a “where are you text?” for it was assumed I had left the party to hit up my dive bar around the corner, a move that would not be unlike me. But nope, I was enjoying the thralls of sweet victory where the Avs beat the Oilers 5-1, and we were finally able to make the one purchase that I wanted most of all for Christmas.

We returned to the party, jerseys in hand and enjoyed the rest of the evening. No one was even surprised by the move I had pulled, but then again anyone who knows me knows how serious I am about my Avalanche.
