USA Fall to Canada 4-2

September 20, 2016 Samantha Jambor

The US may have lost to Canada tonight, but my inner Av in me can’t be sad when Duchene scored two of the four goals. He only had two minutes of play during the first period, but that was all he needed to score two goals. He obviously had more ice time the rest of the game.

Team Canada was all over the US Team whose lackluster and stagnant play couldn’t go unnoticed. McDonagh scored for the US only a few minutes into the first period, but Duchene was quick to retaliate a minute later tying the game. Team Canada didn’t stop there, and scored two more quick goals by Perry and Dutchy.

There was a small resurgence by the US in the third period when they hit the post three times and Oshie knocked one in to make it 4-2. Unfortunately, the three-goal chasm they created for themselves would be too much to overcome, and now Tortorella’s Team USA is eliminated from the World Cup.

I know hockey is the national sport of Canada, and part me wants them to win, but I’d at least expect it to be a good game. As the great Berry Melrose said “They threw a stinker at us”. A stinker it was. There was no emotion, no heart, no grit, and as if they were playing for nothing. Nothing indeed is what they will be playing for in Thursday’s game vs. the Czech Republic where both teams are now eliminated from the tournament.

However, like I said before Dutch got two goals. Kane and Parise got none, and at the end of the day, that’s what matters, right?
